About 10,000 farmers in Bassa local Government of Plateau state are being targeted to register and access fertilizer distribution under a federal initiative to improve food production.
Management Committee Chairman, Bassa Local government, Hon Sarah Bali, who disclosed this, also urged the Federal Government to do more in the agriculture sector in order to diversify the economy.
Mrs Bali stated this while briefing the farmers on the on-going enlightened campaign on the agricultural initiatives of President Muhammadu Buhari. She challenged farmers in the locality to key into the programme.
Mrs Bali assured that the programme would lift farming activities and modernise it.
She commended President Buhari for supporting farmers with loans and charged farmers to ensure that they register with Bank of Agriculture.
Bali said the council has signed Memorandum of Understanding with some banks to embark that would give farmers access to fertilizer for dry season farming.
