The Delta police command has arrested two policemen who allegedly kidnapped one Mr. Daniel Umukoro Efe at the university town of Abraka, Ethiope East Local Council of the State
Luck ran out of the mobile policemen cum kidnappers (names withheld) when they were engaged by members of the Delta State anti-kidnapping committee led by its Assistant Director of Operations, Mr. Tony Edafiogho and other security men who went after the kidnappers in a hot pursuit leading to their apprehension along the Okpara waterside of Ethiope East Local Council.
The Delta State Anti-kidnapping committee is a special unit set up by the House Committee on Peace and Security of the Delta State House of Assembly to gather information on kidnapping and assist security agencies in curbing crime in the state.
The anti-kidnapping squad had swung into action following a tip off by someone at the scene of the kidnapping.
The Police Spokesperson, Mr. Andy Aniamaka, who confirmed the arrest of the two policemen, both corporals, said that they are currently in detention at the state headquarters in Asaba, while the other members of the gang are still at large.
According to him, Edom who was on duty at Abaka was contacted to apprehend Efe after their business transaction, noting that the police will not spare any member of the force who goes against the law.
Aniamaka, a Deputy Superintendent of Police gave the names of the policemen as Ededi Oreva and Musa Edom. He said that the policemen were on illegal duty and that their action amounted to misconduct, assuring that they will be dealt with according to the law.
“Their action amount to illegal duty and for that a disciplinary action is already being taken,” he said
