About N2.8 billion has been earmarked in the 2017 budget for the completion of the Suleja – Minna road project in Niger state, the Senator representing Niger East Senatorial District at the National Assembly, Senator David Umaru, has said.
The lawmaker stated this yesterday in a chat with journalists, adding that the Senate was very much aware of the plight of the people and motorists on the road.
According to him, “as you know, the Suleja – Minna road has become death trap for motorists and we are seriously concerned with the hardship of our people on this road over the years. In response to the yearnings of the people of Niger state, the Senate has voted N2.8bn in the 2017 budget for the completion of construction project”.
While expressing the appreciation of his constituents and the people of Niger state in general to the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki and his colleagues at the National Assembly, Senator Umaru expressed the hope that the road project would be completed this fiscal year to alleviate the sufferings of the people.
He also thanked members of the National Assembly for the provision of N150m for the take off the Hydro Power Producing Areas Development Commission (HYPPADEC), adding that the process for the appointment of the commission’s board members has reached advanced level.
The senator added: “We have done necessary amendment in the HYPPADEC bill especially in the area of the remittance of 30% from the GENCOs which was on the high side. We have reduced this to about 10% in the amendment. We are also getting ready to establish the board of the commission for its smooth take-off and this will be done very soon”.
