Leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party PDP have vowed to reclaim Niger state from the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) come 2019.
The leaders who spoke separately at the handing and taking over ceremony from the new old to the new executive of the party in the state at the party secretariat in Minna described their loss of power to the APC in the 2015 general elections as an accident which they were prepared to correct.
The former state chairman of the party, Alhaji Umar Mohammed Maali and his successor Barrister Sulaiman Tanko Beji, also submitted that the ruling APC had prepared a veritable ground for the PDP to return to power in 2019 because of the lack of performance of the ruling party.
Aside from this, they argued that the success recorded in the conduct of the congresses of the party PDP from the ward to the state level showed that the party was now ready to challenge successfully for the elections in 2019.
‘Before the end of 2019 we want the whole of Niger state to return to the PDP that is what we will work to achieve’ Umar Maali said.
He continued: ‘We have a great task before us and we need to do more. What happened in Niger state in 2015 is God’s design. We should not blame anybody all we should do now is to work assiduously to reclaim this state from the APC, Niger state must return to the PDP where it belongs.”
On his part Barrister Tanko Beji assured that “everything, including bringing back all those that left the party before the 2015 general elections would be ‘done as one of the steps to ensure we prepare as one house for the elections in 2015. Our desire is to reclaim power; we will work towards achieving this goal and God being on our side we will succeed.”
Tanko Beji assured PDP faithful that the new leadership would always do the right thing and would create the right impressions in the minds of the supporters so that together ‘we will take the party to the promised land.’
“I can assure you all that we will leave this party better than we met it what we need is the support and cooperation of everyone,” he said.
All the newly elected officials took their oaths of office and allegiance before being conducted round the secretariat.
