Alhaji Gidado, the committee chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) posted to Plateau State by the National Secretariat of the APC to conduct the Plateau North Senatorial District Primary Elections has decried alleged high percentage of illiterate delegates which he said slowed down the process of voting at the Lingfield venue of the exercise.
Gidado pointed that a good percentage of the delegates could not read, write or even identify their candidates on the ballot paper which was very frustrating.
He charged the Plateau State Government to prioritize adult education programme in the state asked Hon Rufus Bature, the Plateau State Chairman of the APC to convey the message to the governor of Plateau State, insisting that the literacy level of the state should have been higher than what he withnessed.
Gidado, who is from Taraba State, stated this in his speech after the declaration of the Northern Senatorial Zone Primary Election held at the Land Field, Jos South Local Government on 28May,2022.
He advised the winner of the Northern Senatorial Zone Primary Elections, Amb Chris Giwa to set up Adult Education classes to improve the level of illiteracy in the zone.
He stressed that the election would have be faster if the delegates were educated and they could express themselves both in writing and orally, stressing that until something is done fast, it will threaten the nation’s democracy.
Giwa scored 213 votes to emerge the winner of APC Northern Senatorial District Primary of the State while his closet rival, Mafeng Gwalson, the current Executive Chairman of Riyom Local Government, scored 150 votes.
In another development, the Plateau State APC Governorship primaries is being challenged because 98% of votes cast were by a single agent of a Government -endorsed candidate which is said to be below the standard practice of elections globally.
