When the terrorists who attacked the Abuja-Kaduna rail lines released one of their high-profile victim – a top bank executive – they made this cryptic statement ostensibly directed at the Federal Government: “You know what we want”.
Nigerians have since pondered on that statement, wondering what clandestine demands have been tabled before President Muhammadu Buhari via the back channels which many Nigeria swear exist between the authorities and these dare-devils.
Many a public analyst has asked aloud: “What do they want? Is it money? The release of their captured commanders and other comrades? Nigerian territory carved out for their dream caliphate? Just bloodbath? What?
Well, The Dream Daily Newspaper can reveal that while all of the above might actually be on the shopping lists of these terrorists, a most shocking and audacious demand has been made of the Federal Government by these cold-blooded killers.
According to sources within the friends and relations of those still being held by the terrorists, one of the unbelievable and improbable demands believed to have been communicated to President Muhammadu Buhari by the terrorists is that the Federal Government shall have to supply military-grade weaponry, including armoured vehicles, to them in order to secure the release of the train passengers still in their captivity.
Of course The Dream Daily Newspaper found it ridiculously unbelievable that such a demand would be made of a sovereign state to equip the very insurgency aimed at its balkanization into a caliphate of the terrorists’ thrills. Nevertheless, referencing one of the videos released by the terrorist, one of our sources stated unequivocally:
“Our sister (name withheld by The Dream Daily) is in black Abaya. May Allah SWT in His infinite mercy rescue the victims soon. This is heartbreaking. Our other friend whose son and seven-month pregnant wife were abducted is in a terrible state when we visited yesterday. The trauma is just too much!”
Another source stated: “The deceased lawyer, Fareeda (Suleiman Mohammed, shot dead point blank during the train attack) was our teacher’s daughter. We paid condolence to our teacher too. We were informed there that they are requesting for armoured tanks from the government, Russian made – whatever that means. Yes, that was what they meant when they said the government knew what they wanted!”
Lamenting the security situation further, a Kaduna-based source added: “They have taken every one unawares. Kaduna is no longer the safe haven it used to be. We now go to bed hearing gunshots. Gradually the insurgency is gaining grounds right here!”
