The crisis in Adamawa State House of Assembly deepened on Wednesday when the House converged for plenary and suspended it chairman, committee on budget and appropriation, Abdulrahaman Abubakar Isa, for three months and dissolved his committee.
The motion to suspend the committee chairman and dissolved the committee was moved by the member representing Girei, Hon. Mohammed Mutawalli and hinged on “the unguided information passed across to the people of the state concerning a virement letter submitted to the lawmakers by Governor Bindow seeking their approval to adjust it.
Chairman, Committee on Information, Hon. Hassan Barguma faulted and accused Isa of having wrongly misinformed the people of the state with his “unguided misquotations.”
Barguma observed since 22 members of the House said they should approve the governor’s request and only a member was against it, “this shows that we unanimously agreed to approved the virement letter for the governor.”
He added: “You see the letter brought to the House by the governor is to seek our approval on another letter earlier submitted to adjust the funds on ongoing projects in the state, not to do it out of plan that is all in the letter.
” For him (Isa) to go and hold a press conference after the House plenary disputing what the Honourable House agreed upon is totally unconstitutional and an act that called for his suspension. Does it mean that he is bigger than the entire Adamawa House of Assembly? Or is it good for one member to overwrite the view of the majority? We dissolved the committee base on the behaviour of the chairman of the committee.”
But Isa maintained that he was only working for the interest of Adamawa people, which some lawmakers were not happy and he would soon expose them.
The dissolved committee headed by is is now to be handle by the selection committee pending when a new leader is selected.
