All is not well in the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Adamawa State due mainly to the intrigues of the purported coming into the fold of the party by the Gubernatorial candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Malam Nuhu Ribadu, and that of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Engineer Markus Gundiri, in the last election being spearheaded, as it is speculated, by the Secretary to the Government, David Lawal Babachir.
The two gentlemen were defeated by the current Governor Jibrilla Bindow, with overwhelmingly wide margin in the election, that saw the then ruling PDP becoming the main opposition party. The current intrigue is being play in order to scuttle the second term ambition of the incumbent in 2019. Ironically, as the story is going round the place, the person whose supporters rally round the ambition of Bindow – former Governor Murtala Nyako – is allegedly fully in the latest scheming to deny Bindow, the second chance.
Nyako’s group, it is alleged, is against Bindow because it was discarded by the governor immediately he took office.
The plan now, according to those who know, is to pitch the Adamawa people against Bindow. But the people of the state are now wise enough to see the revolution in
infrastructural development by the Bindow, which they last saw under the military administration of the then Governor Jonah Jang. With only a year in office, Bindow has done creditably well in the area construction and rehabilitation of roads in Jimeta, Yola and Mubi. Only recently, the governor flagged the construction of Shelleng road, which was completely cut off from the rest of the state for the past 12 years.
The ‘holocaust’ done to the state by successive administrations since the advent of the democratic rule in 1999 is being remedied by the current administration and the people are applauding the efforts, shunning the holier-than-thou crop of politicians who wanted to come into the APC fold, having left the party and contested the gubernatorial election on different party platform.
Governor Bindow is an indestructible bond for the fact that the people believe, that they had made the right choice. Bindow has shown concern for the plight of the common man in Adamawa the state. The only area Bindow can be found wanting is in the payment of salaries of the workers of the primary health care.
Nevertheless, he is making frantic efforts to settle their five-month backlog. This writer is of the strong conviction that nobody among those making a U-turn can navigate the storm of the state to do more than what Bindow is doing to uplift the state. Their foot soldiers are making the loudest noise over the air wave because there are no any crumbs on the table any longer as Bindow has made it known that he cannot throw the state resources away anyhow because they are meant for good governance and for the provision of dividend of democracy to the people.
Adamawa State cannot longer be held hostage because of the perceived interest of a few indigenes who in their myopic mind think that by virtue of their position the people will continue to dance to their tune.
The Adamawa people can no longer be divided on the basis of religion or tribe. What the people want now is accelerated development as the state is lagging behind in every ramifications. The elites need to put their hands on deck to assist Governor Bindow who is bent on transforming the state to an enviable position.
