Adamawa Civil Servant Sues First Bank Over ‘Illegal’ Salary Deduction

A civil servant, Muhammad Adam Auwal, has dragged the Yola main branch of First Bank of Nigeria PLC before a Yola High Court for breach of contract over alleged deduction of his entire salary for the months of June and July.
Auwal, through his counsel, Barrister Sunday Wugira, sought for a declaration that the deduction of the sum of N101,230.96 and N101,242.14 from his account with the bank in the months of June and July 2016 respectively as unlawful and breach of contract agreement.
Other reliefs sought by the plaintiff included an order directing the bank to refund the total sum of N105,055.58 being excess and unlawful deduction from the months of June and July.
He also sought N500,000.00 as special damages for unlawful deductions and denial by the bank to provide him with his statement account when he requested.
The Judge, Abubakar Babayola, who fixed September 1 for hearing also granted the plaintiff’s Motion Ex parte restraining First Bank from deducting any amount beyond the agreed N48,708.76 monthly from the plaintiff’s account in respect of the N1 million loan he collected from the bank in 2013.
