A seven-man administrative panel of inquiry into communal crisis in Adamawa State set up by Governor Muhammadu Umaru Jibrilla Bindow is raising dust.
This is as a result of the inclusion of Dr. Abubakar Umar Bobboi Girei as a member of the panel. According to the leaders of Njiya Gordon Community, Bobboi Girei is a “prime suspect” in the killing of many people in the affected communities of Girei Local Government Area (LGA)
The leaders, in a statement in Yola commended the Bindow-led administration for his sincerity and courage in constituting a high-power administrative panel of inquiry to investigate causes of the recent Fulani herdsmen massacre in Koh and environs, Tambo -Jumo and Kodomun communities, both in Girei and Demsa LGAs of the state.
The leader of the community, Manasseh K. Nayango, who appended his signature to the statement on behave of six other leaders of the community said:
“We observe with dissatisfaction the inclusion of Dr. Abubakar Umar Bobboi Girei as one of the panel members, for the painful reason that the said Bobboi is a prime suspect and one of the masterminds of the cold blooded mayhem carried out by the Fulani herdsmen on Koh, Ndikajam, Tabongo, Dyemsare and Noine villages on 24th January, 2016”.
According to him, the allegations against Bobboi can be further confirmed from the community’s series of petitions to the government and security agencies before and after the attack.
They are therefore advising the governor to reconsider and “replace Dr. Abubakar Umar Girei Bobboi with a neutral member as he is not competent to be in the panel, owing to his questionable integrity and his perceived involvement in the crisis being investigated or else we not hesitate to boycott our appearance before the panel “.
“We are of the strong opinion and believe that, his presence in the panel cannot guarantee us fair hearing, as a suspect cannot be a judge over his own case “.Manassah added
Efforts to speak with Bobboi prove abortive as his did not answer phone calls put to his lines.
