Governor of Adamawa state, Jibrilla Bindow, has distanced himself from alleged diversion of 70 trucks of maize and rice sent to the state and meant for Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs).
Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mathias Yohanna, who posted a press release on his Facebook wall that the story was connected to the Honourable Member representing Madagali in the state House of Assembly, Hon. Emmanuel Tsandu.
The statement accused Tsandu of disseminating “misguided information” without thorough investigation.
In the statement Yohanna wrote: “It is pertinent therefore to draw his attention and that of general public to the basic truth. All assistance from the Federal Government to IDPs comes through NEMA and not just direct to SEMA as being alleged.
“The Adamawa state Government through its SEMA did not receive a single truck of rice from the Federal Government as its agent in this case. Rather, what happened was that all states that benefited from that assistance from the Federal Government had ministers and members of the National Assembly as committee members liaising with NEMA officials for onward distribution.
“It should be noted that in our case the Office of the SGF coordinated the distribution, and to the best of our knowledge ALL Local Governments were allocated and given, with the Boko Haram affected ones drawing larger allocations. There is no case of diversion and more so it is not under the purview of this government”.
The bags of grains were meant for councils most affected areas in the state but generated a lot of controversies on how it has been distributed.
