From Tom Garba, Yola
Mr Umar Nakendewiri, Executive Director, Adamawa Sports Council on Tuesday said that the departments required N20 million to host sports festival in the state.
Nakendewiri made this known in an interview with The Dream Daily in Yola. He said that the festival subcommittees would require funds for logistics and purchases of materials for the event, adding that the council would constitute six sub-committees which would coordinate activities during the festival.
The executive director said that the state hosted the event last in 2011 during former Governor Murtala Nyako’s administration.
His words: “The entire sports festival requires N20 million for the successful hosting of the event. The council normally constitutes sub-committee such as media and publicity, medical committee, ceremony committee among others. Each of this committees is expected to make their own budget, but I believe that N20 million will be okay for the festival.’’
Nakendewiri said the council has already proposed May 2nd to 6th in 2016 for the festival, adding that the event would assemble local athletes who would display their talents as well as attract other clubs outside the state.
He commended Governor Jibrilla Bindow for his love for sports, adding that at the inception of the administration, he sought to review the contract for the construction of Yola Sports Complex.
He added that with Bindow, sports would rebound in the state, calling on lovers of sports not to relent in supporting sports in the state.
