The Adamawa state government is to place the salaries of local government workers on the first line charge.
Governor Jibrilla Bindow of Adamawa on Thursday made this known while receiving the report on local government staff verification.
It will be recalled that a 13-man committee was set up in July 2015 to verify the state’s local government workforce with a view to creating a database for effective implementation of e-payment salary system.
Bindow said that the front line charge would give priority to prompt payment of council workers’ salaries, which have been suffering delays.
According to him, council workers’ salaries will henceforth be paid at the same time with the state government workers.
He appealed to the local government workers to remain patient as their four-month outstanding salaries would be paid before the end of June.
He also vowed to prosecute any government official found culpable of financial misconduct in the local government administration.
Bindow directed the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs to furnish his office with details and updates on local government/state joint account-related issues.
While commending the committee for the comprehensive report presented to the state government, the governor expressed his commitment to implementing it as quick as possible.
