Speaker, Adamawa State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Kabiru Mijinyawa, on Tuesday, tasked Governor Jibrilla Bindow on the judicious use of the recently received bailout funds meant to settle outstanding salary and pension arrears of workers in the state.
Mijinyawa, who spoke against the backdrop of his alleged strained relationship with members of the House, maintained that he would not be cowered into taking any action that is against the interest and stability of the state.
He stated that although he remained averse to impeachment, he stressed that the only thing that would make him move against the executive is if the governor fails to heed to his advice of being financially prudent and evidence abounds of gross misconduct.
The Speaker said as a result he has consistently cautioned Governor Bindow not to do anything with the bailout fund given to the state outside of the purposes for which it was received.
As the Adamawa legislature resumed from its protracted recess, Mijinyawa is alleged to be grappling with a strained relationship with the lawmakers who accuse him not doing enough to bring dividends of governance to them.
But Mijinyawa, who reacted to the development in his office on Tuesday, said: “I am not here for impeachment. Count me out of any impeachment,” noting that “the change mantra must be evident in the polity.”
The Speaker explained that one thing he would not do is to succumb to the wishes of those he said were into politics for “self aggrandizement” to push him into trying to get anything from the executive arm of government “by crook”.
Mijinyawa noted that while not trying to sound like been protective of the executive arm, he said he remained an ardent believer on the need protect the institutions of government from unhealthy rivalry.
He therefore said the House under him will not seek to box the executive to a corner just to get want it wants.
