Youths in Adamawa State, under the auspices of Buhari Youths Organization,(BYO), at the weekend urged All Progressives Congress (APC) members in Adamawa State to stop the flexing of political muscle over the nomination of Alhaji Muhammadu Musa Bello as minister from the state by President Muhammadu Buhari and allow peace to reign.
In a statement by the state Coordinator of BYO, Alhaji Bello Zubairu, following the criticism that Bello was nominated as minister at the expense of politicians who had suffered for the party in terms of financial contributions and during the electioneering campaigns in the state.
The coordinator urged the APC politicians in the state stop causing crisis following the nomination of Bello, saying that BYO viewed “it with utmost concern the recent controversy within the APC fold that is capable of tearing the party apart in the state.
“The said crisis in Adamawa State APC is unnecessary as a result of the ministerial nomination of Alhaji Muhammed Musa Bello by President Muhammadu Buhari. The president has the prerogative of appointing the people he can work with.”
While a group within the APC family maintained that the Adamawa ministerial nominee has not contributed electorally to the fortune of the party in the state, as he is not a politician, the pro-Bello nomination also maintained that President Buhari used his prerogative to nominate his appointees based on their pedigrees.
Zubairu said BYO, “being concerned about promoting stability in the polity and ensuring that the Nigerian populace is conscientious about the intention of Buhari / Osinbajo administration in meeting the yearnings of Nigerians, appealed to the two groups to make the issue of development of the state a focal point for now.
“While the issue of party loyalty is worthy of consideration, the groups should be reminded that it is Mr President that is to work with the ministers and the nominees must have been nominated based on various criteria and their pedigrees as observed by Mr President.”
“BYO wishes to point out that the party has firmly established itself in the state, thus, perceived internally crisis should not be allowed to permeate the state because of nomination of Muhammad Musa Bello by Mr President who is only exercising his prerogative as President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”
According to the group, “the utmost desire of Mr President, as every Nigerian is aware, is to ensure socio economic transformation of the country and uplifting the living standard of Nigerians. It is therefore expected that all hands must be on deck for Mr President and his team to meet these yearnings.
“The nominee may not have been a party member or impacted on the party during political campaigns nor contributed to the growth of the party in whatever capacity, but BYO is with the firm belief that Bello has other ways of meaningfully contributing to the development of the state in particular, and the country in general.
“While we acknowledge the fact that the Nominee, Alhaji Muhammed Musa Bello, is going for national assignment, BYO wishes to intimate him of the need to contribute to the state not only in his capacity as a minister but in other areas of socioeconomics.
