The Adamawa Progressive Youth Forum on Wednesday in Yola commended Governor Jibrilla Bindow for appointing a youth as the Vice Chancellor (VC) of the Adamawa state University Mubi.
Mr. Mohammed Zakari, chairman of the group made the commendation while briefing newsmen in Yola.
It will be recalled that the university was embroiled in a protracted crisis which lead to the removal of Prof. Joshua Shall, the former VC and the indefinite suspension of Mr. Ezra Kumthi Anjili, bursar of the university.
The governor, who is the Visitor to the university, appointed Dr Moses Zaruwa, former DVC academic of the university as the acting Vice Chancellor.
Mr. Zakari said that the appointment of Zaruwa signified the due recognition the governor has promised the youths that he would consider them in key appointments of his administration.
He said that the previous administration had failed to consider the youths while making relevant appointments, noting that the new administration had carried the youths along.
He said that the youth of the state would continue to support the governor in his vision to empower the youths as well as considering the youths in his government.
Zakari said “since the inception of the university, this is the first time that a youth would be considered for the apex position in the university.
According to him, “Bindow has broken the jinx and has created a record as the first governor to appoint a youth as a vice chancellor in Nigeria.”
He said that the new appointment would impact positively in the life of the institution adding that “the way the acting VC had started the university administration is a sign that better days are ahead for the institution.
Zakari said: “We want to commend our amiable Governor Jibrilla Mohammad Bindow for his wisdom by appointing one of our own Dr Moses Zira Zaruwa as the acting Vice chancellor of Adamawa state University Mubi. To us, This is a paradigm shift.
“With this appointment, we are convinced that the governor meant well for Adamawa youths in particular. It also shows that the Governor Bindow has keyed into President Muhammadu Buhari’s vision for youths empowerments and for this we will continue to support him.
“Our conviction is that Dr. Zaruwa as a youth will not disappoint the state and the youth. His records have shown that he is an academic of high repute, diligent, humble, intelligent and sound to take the institution to the higher level.
“We urge the governor to ratify his appointment as the substantive VC to make him take the institution to a world-class level.
The acting VC was born in 1969 and is now the youngest VC in Nigeria.
