One of Nigeria’s foremost Sports Psychologists, Prof. Oluwaseun Omotayo, has congratulated the Super Eagles for their exploits this far at the ongoing 2023 Africa Cup of Nation (AFCON) in the Ivory Coast, urging them to bring the cup home by defeating the hosts on Sunday, 11 February, 2024 in the final match of the tournament.
Prof. Omotayo, who spoke from his base in Ghana, urged the Super Eagles to approach the final encounter with utmost focus and a full mindset of performance.
The sports psychologist of the Saudi ’89 “Damman Miracle” fame stated: “At this stage of the AFCON and with the status of the Super Eagles of Nigeria in the continental football competition, I congratulate all Nigerians at home and in the diaspora on the achievement of the Super Eagles.
“I urge the Super Eagles to be more focused and have a mindset of Performance Rejuvenation (PR) so as to play to consume what is left of the Elephants of Cote D’ Voire in the final match.”
Prof. Omotayo said “the final match has played up a Second Chance Aggression (SCA) situation in which the host nation are under pressure to win but can be curtailed with a PR mindset and higher display of Instrumental Aggression.”
According to him, “the more Instrumentally aggressive team should expect to win the match.”
When asked to make a prediction he said: “I will not predict but I wish the Super Eagles win as the win is crucial to deepening of national unity, particularly because of the mood of the nation at this time.”
Prof. Omotayo condoled with the families and friends of Super Eagles supporters who had died supporting the Super Eagles at the AFCON 2023. He said Nigerian fans should control their emotions so as to avoid Adrenal Stress-induced deaths.
