The African Union (AU) has pledged to support the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct one of the most credible and peaceful elections in Nigeria.
Phlumzile Mlambo Ngouka, former South Africa deputy president and leader of African Union pre-election political mission in Nigeria stated this on Monday, 28 November, 2022 when she led other members of the team in a meeting with the INEC at the commission conference room in Abuja.
Ngouka said: “It’s a great pleasure for me and my delegation to be in this great country, Nigeria, to wish Nigeria Goodluck in the election and wishing everything goes well.
“We are here as partners to do a visit in order to ascertain on behalf of the African Union that you are on top of this election. We would like to hear from you how much we are to pay for this exciting election, how much contestants have emerged, the electoral processes and how the parties are exceedingly campaigning as expected, the contributionof civil societies, INEC relationship with parties and encouraging dialogue with the parties and how much the commission has invested in the outcome of this election.
“In general, we would like you to share with us about this election, including how much supported you are, financially. Let me just emphasize for the fact that we are here on a supportive mission and we are dedicated to ensure that if possible, credible and peaceful process.”
