No doubt Governor Mohammed Umaru Jibrilla appointed him to steer the ship of the state-owned transport company. This was made possible because he proved to be a tested administrator having served as the General Manager during the reign of former Governor Murtala Nyako, for seven years consecutively. It was during his stewardship that the company purchased 21 Toyota Hummer buses to add to its fleet.
He was instrumental to the opening of inter-states transport to places such as Abuja, Kaduna, Kano and Lagos respectively. He also introduced the route to the Cameroon by opening an office in Garoau where the buses of the company took passengers from Yola to Cameroon on daily basis.
Engineer Ahmed Baba Nyako, undertook the rehabilitation and reconstruction of the bus terminal of the company by the construction of shops to boost the revenue base of the company.
He enhanced the capability of the mechanics of the company through a capacity building through in-house training on the modern techniques in the repair of the buses of the company.
So far with his reappointment by the present Governor Mohammed Umaru Jibrilla, Engineer Ahmed Baba Nyako has intimated the Governor Mohammed Umaru Jibrilla, on the imperative for the government to purchase additional buses for the use of the company.
And the Governor Mohammed Umaru Jibrilla, in his magnanimity has approved the sum of N375 million for the acquisition of 50 buses. To boost the morale of the staff on his second coming, he settle the outstanding salaries and allowances worth N1.5 million.
To enhance the revenue generation of the company about 250 private vehicles were registered by the company and N5.8 million has been generated as revenue, which was remitted to the government treasury.
Engineer Ahmed Baba Nyako intend to recruit people especially among the teeming unemployed when the buses arrive. This can no doubt reduce the unemployment of youths in the state. Malay Usman Wuro-Hausa, described the General Manager as an astute administrator and one who want to change the fortune of the company as a revenue generation outfit that can complement the government efforts towards delivering the dividend of democracy.
He stated that Governor Jibrilla is making great effort towards the company in order to assist the poor people in their day-to-day transportation in and outside the state at a relatively low cost.
The concern of the state chief executive saw to the construction of a befitting office complex of the ministry in charge of the transport company. This would go a long way in strengthening the ties between the mother ministry and the transport company.
The General Manager is also making effort towards having a modern workshop for the company so as to ease the problem of the maintenance of the vehicles of the company now and the near future.
The appointment of Engineer Ahmed Baba Nyako, is in the right direction at this material time as the government is exploring ways of generating revenue. It is imperative for the General Manager to justify his appointment for the overall benefit of the state.
