From Victor Seyi, Ilorin
Kwara State Governor, Abdulfatah Ahmed has congratulated the new National President of the Nigeria Union Of Journalists (NUJ), Mr Waheed Odusile and other
members of the National Executive Council of the union.
In a congratulatory message signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Abdulwahaab Oba, Governor Ahmed urged the new leadership of the NUJ to not only urgently evolve a
mechanism to ensure adequate but commensurate remuneration for media practitioners but also preach journalism with responsibility. “Just as it is done with other professions, Journalism is too central for national growth and development to be left without an Ombusman to act as check and balance”, the governor said.
Governor, who also commiserated with the former deputy president of the union, Comrade Rotimi Obamuwagun, over the loss of his wife, commended journalists for a peaceful conduct of the election and promised to create better enabling environment for
journalists working in the state.
Charging those who won in the election to be magnanimous in victory and the losers to be gallant in defeat, Dr Ahmed counselled the new NUJ leadership to embrace an inclusive governance strategy as a divided house would never be to the greater glory of journalism and journalists in the country.
