Commissioner for Rural Development in Akwa Ibom State, Ekong Bassey has warned against acts of vandalism on electricity equipment meant for rural electrification which is one of the cardinal programmes of government.

He gave the warning while inspecting 33KVA high tension network traversing Ikot Ebak, Ikot Akai, Ikot Abia Utok and Ikot Ekpenyong communities in Mkpat Enin Local Government Area.

Bassey enjoined the beneficiaries to take ownership of electrical installations and blamed the theft of the facilities on the negligence of responsible people in the communities at the detriment of a few bad eggs who do not have the interest of the community at heart.

He therefore urged the people to beware of the activities of these miscreants and be determined to stop them before they deprive the communities from enjoying the dividends of democracy
His words: “The administration is doing its best to prudently utilize the limited resources of the state at the moment to deliver on its campaign promises for the good of all. Youths, women and the different communities must understand the duty of policing each other and reporting suspicious elements or indigenes collaborating with strange elements to commit the crime. No stranger can successfully commit such crimes in the community without the aid of insiders’.
Responding, National President of the youth association in the area, Mr. Odung. Emmanuel, expressed delight that their long neglected communities have found favour under the current administration.
