An appealed has been made to the Niger state Governor Abubakar Sani Bello to in addition to salary bailout given to local governments in the state to also intervene in the areas of capital projects to enable them fulfilled their campaign promises to the electorates.
This was the position of the state Chairman of ALGON, Alhaji Gambo Kagara while fielding questions from newsmen in Minna on Thursday, stressing that without intervention of the state government some of the local governments cannot embark on any capital projects especially the 12 distressed ones.
He noted that the autonomy of the third tiers of government in the state was with good intention but was challenged due to the continuous falling in the federal allocation to the states and inherited debts front the immediate past administration.
He added that this has created more hardship for the local governments in the state especially those councils who were unable to pay their monthly salaries talk less of executing a capital project that would impact the electorates in the grassroots.
Kagara who commended the state governor for stabilizing the local governments in the state for his intervention in the payment of all the arrears of salaries hence needed more bail out to carry out dividend of democracy at the grassroots by embarking on capital projects as fulfilment of their campaign promises.
He therefore called on the chairmen to be at their various local government headquarters to communicate to the electorates at that level to ensure development while charging the people to be patient with government.
He further solicited the supports of the traditional rulers to be security alert and be conscious of any strangers in their domain and immediately report to the security agencies about any security threat.
Also the State ALGON Secretary, Mr John Taman while corroborated with the chairman stated that the challenges confronting the local government areas cannot be over emphasized sequel to the high expectations of the change mantra of the present administration.
Taman decried lack of funds to fulfill their campaign promises to the electorates hence leaving them in a distressed situations.
He lamented over the debt inherited that demanded for direct deductions from their allocation.
The ALGON Scribe equally applauded the state governor for his intervention in payment of salary arrears but called for more bail out to embarked on capital projects that would have direct bearing on the lives of the electorates at the grassroots levels.
