American University of Nigeria (AUN) Yola, Adamawa state at the weekend graduated 210 students.
Among those that passed out,181 persons were graduates of first degrees while a total of 29 were Postgraduates.
In her speech at the 8th graduation ceremony of the institution, President of American University Dr Mergee Ensign, thanked the founder of the university, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, for his sacrifice in nurturing the university to its present status.
She noted that since its inception the university has been playing critical role in shaping future leaders in Nigeria and Africa by producing thoroughbred professionals that will change the future of the continent.
She noted that the 2016 graduates were unique for the various humanitarian roles they played in the wake of Boko Haram insurgency that ravaged the north eastern part of the country, having fully participated in providing humanitarian assistance to many of the IDPs.
In his address, the Commencement Speaker, Dr. Mustapha Abiodun Akinkunmi who is also Lagos commissioner of finance noted that the university would provide a springboard for future leadership in Africa.
He stated that the AUN was one of the best things to happen to Nigeria and indeed Africa, noting that education, health and security are paramount to the development of the continent.
Akinkunmi added that human development was the most important ingredient for all-inclusive development, urging the graduands to be good ambassadors of the university and to serve humanity selflessly.
