Nigeria’s Elizabeth Anyanacho was 15 years when the Chika Chukwumerije Sports Foundation (CCSF) discovered her through its Team CCSF programme for the underprivileged.
At the time, she was a gangly girl with shy eyes and unsure movement, but her talents were certain. We told her the vision – Paris 2024 Olympics. We made a plan, and followed the plan.
Lizzy worked so hard that she made Tokyo Olympics, four years ahead of schedule. She lost and cried hard. It took her many months to recover from the Tokyo 2020 loss, but through the tears and the pains, she never stopped working hard.
Since the vision and plan was kickstarted 10 years ago, it has been very tough, very hard. So many sacrifices have been made and a lot more tears shed. Yet, Lizzy has kept on going.
Like this, she became African Champion in 2024. Like this, she qualified for Paris 2024 Olympics. Like this, her story inspires and illustrates a life lesson – if you work really hard, and you believe, nothing is impossible.
Paris 2024 Olympics has begun. From today till 9 August 2024, the world’s top athletes will be competing in the French capital, Paris.
