President Muhammadu Buhari has had his way with the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the on-going National Convention of the party with the withdrawal of all six national chairmanship candidates challenging his choice of former Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Adamu, as the APC national Chairman.
The path to the consensus candidacy for Senator Abdullahi was cleared by a letter of withdrawal signed by one of the contestant, Senator George Akume from Benue State dated Friday 25 March, 2022 to the Chairman, APC Election Sub-Committee indicating that himself and other candidates – Senator Tanko Al-Makura, Malam Abdulaziz Yari, Senator Sani Musa Muhammed, Comm. Etsu Muhammed and Turaki Salifu Mustapha – “chairmanship aspirants of our great party” have agreed “to a consensus arrangement wherein our colleague H.E. Abdullahi Adamu is made our consensus candidate for the chairmanship position” of the APC.
According to political analysts keeping tab on the APC convention the development is expected to strengthened President Buhari’s hold on the party and smoothen his way to choosing his successor as presidential candidate of the APC.
