Senators on the platform of the All Progressive Congress (APC) appeared poised for a standoff with President Muhammadu Buhari and the APC over the election of the national executives of the party and the APC’s tickets in the 2023 General Elections.

Reason: Senate President Ahmad Lawan on Thursday 24th March, 2022 told the Chairman, APC Caretaker/ Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee, Governor Mai mala Buni, that it was time President Buhari pay them back for their loyalty to him since 2015 by conceding their positions on the national executives to be elected at the national convention as well as on securing the party’s tickets in the 2023 election.

Dr. Lawan spoke during a meeting with Buni at the APC National secretariat, Abuja when he led senators of the party to deliberate with the caretaker committee on how the senators can contribute to the success of the APC National convention on Saturday, 26 March, 2022.

Lawan said: “Mr. chairman sir, we are here to seek how we can participate and contribute to the success of the APC National convention. We have been contributing to the success of the party. We believe it’s time the party consider our position. This is the platform that brought us to the Senate and we hope the party remain the platform for Nigerian to elect their leaders in 2023”.

Responding, Buni, acknowledged the contributions of the APC Senators to success of the party and promised to look into their demands.

“I don’t know what your demands are, but I’ll look into your request in the course of our discussion,” Buni replied.

Both Buni and Lawan later met behind closed doors.
