The  National Working Committee (NWC) of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) on Wednesday 31 January 2024 voided the purported suspension of Austin Agada as the Benue state APC Chairman.

There has been a tussle over who controls the structure of the party in the state between the loyalists of the Governor, Fr. Hyacinth Alia and and those of the Secretary to the Government of the federation, Sen. George Akume.

Agada is said to be one of Akume loyalists who has been accused by Alia’s suppoters of anti-party activities during the 2023 general election which led to Abbah Moro of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) winning the south senatorial district in the state.

However, in a statement in Abuja, the APC National Publicity Secretary Barr Felix Morka said Agada suspension by his ward executives has been set aside pending the review of the matter by the party’s NWC.

Morka stated: “The attention of the National Leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has been drawn to media reports of the purported suspension of the Party’s Chairman in Benue State, Mr Augustine Agada, by Party executives in his Ehaje Ward 1, Owukpa, Ogbadibo Local Government Area of the state.

“The Party has directed that the said suspension and all related actions in the matter be, and are hereby, set aside pending further review and decision of the Party’s National Working Committee (NWC) on the matter.

“Therefore, Mr Augustine Agada remains a bonafide member, and the Chairman of the Benue State Chapter, of our Party.”
