The Women Wing of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Kwara State has
expressed displeasure over the invitation of Barrister Toyin Saraki,
wife of Senate President Bukola Saraki, by the Economic and Financial
Crimes Commission (EFCC).

In a press statement by the State Women leader of APC, Hajia Saratu Adebayo, dated July 25, 2015, the group stated that though they are sure that Saraki has no skeleton in her cupboard, yet the invitation seems embarrassing to her because she was never a political
office holder as to warrant such and that she has been working on her NGO, Wellbeing Foundation, ever since her husband, Dr. Bukola Saraki left office as governor of Kwara state in 2011.

The statement further stated that “Barrister Toyin Saraki is a woman whose pedigree and contribution to womanhood cannot be overstated as an Ambassador of the United Nations in humanitarian activities coupled with the fact that she is from a respectable pedigree.”

The women group noted that the time of this invitation of their mentor and mother coincides with the ongoing crises at the National Assembly, involving Senate president Saraki, her husband, which makes the whole scenario a premeditated attempt to victimise Toyin Saraki because of her husband. They therefore advised the EFCC not to allow itself be used as
a tool to settle political scores among politicians.

The statement also called on well-meaning Nigerians to add their voice to what it called an attempt to rubbish President Muhamadu Buhari’s stance on the rule of law and fight against corruption in Nigeria.

It added that the State women leader had been making frantic efforts to prevail on Kwara Women who were bent on staging a huge protest against the invitation of their mother and
benefactor.
“We are not against EFCC doing its statutory job of anti-corruption but innocent Nigerians like Barrister Toyin Saraki should not be dragged into a messy fight among politicians. We have taken pains to prevail on Kwara Women from staging a protest over this issue because
the target of EFCC harassment is our benefactor, who we shall never forget”, said Saratu Adebayo
