The All Progressives Congress (APC) National Youth Wing on Monday, 1 May, 2023 commenced the recruitment and training of football players for the newly established Progressive Football City Academy, which is a platform to discover and launch talented players into limelight as part of fulfilling the campaign promises made to Nigerian youth by the President-Elect, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, of the APC towards the 2023 presidential election.
The launch and training started at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja. The academy plans to play a match as part of activities towards the inauguration of Tinubu as President on May 29, 2023.
Addressing players and fans who turned up for the event, Leader, Progressive Football City Academy, Asiwaju, A. Alebiosu said the reason for the establishment of the football club was not just for the presidential inauguration ceremony but to play in state and national soccer leagues and tournaments, and to produce talents that can play at international level for the party and country.
He urged the Sen. Abdullahi Adamu-led National Working Committee (NWC) of the APC to support the initiative in order to endear the APC to youth nationwide so that the party’s ideals and achievements could be sustained.
Alebiosu, who is the personal assistant to the APC National Youths Leader, Mr. Dayo Israel, stated that the national youth wing of the party had given the marching order for the team to commence training, adding that the certificate of incorporation of the club will be ready from the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) before May 29,2023.
He called on youth across the country to join the APC and participate actively in the academy’s activities.
Alebiosu assured that gone were the days when parties were organised to celebrate elected party leaders for mere merriments, stressing that Nigerian youth will be actively involved in the Tinubu Presidency.
