Philanthropist and Sardaunan Jimeta, Adamawa State, Alhaji Haladu Mohammed, has been honoured by Arewa Youth Consultative Council for his service to humanity.
Mohammed was presented with award of excellence as “Icon of Societal Change” and “Garkuwan Matasan Arewa” in recognition of his valuable contribution to youth empowerment, grassroots development and selfless service to humanity.
The Arewa Youth Consultative Council, a non-political association aimed at societal reorientation, has the main objective of not just extoling but also instilling and promoting the virtues and legacies of the late Sardaunan Sokoto, Sir Ahmadu Bello.
Presenting the award in a ceremony in Yola, President of the council, Comrade Bole Ochai, said Mohammed has proven himself as a philanthropist whose contributions to the masses have been outstanding.
Ochai, who was represented by his deputy, Mr Jude Mamman, said Mohammed has distinguished himself as a youth who subscribe to the ideals of Sir Ahmadu Bello, hence his conferment of the tittle of Sardaunan Jimeta by his people.
Ochai said the association’s activities included creating youth awareness on the need for mutual coexistence and harmonious relationship through peace summit. It saw the need to identify people like Mohammed for recognition of their contribution to humanity.
His words: “It is the level of a personality’s engagement in the community service as a corporate social responsibility that qualifies one to be recognised by the association for an award. Our conscience is certainly not for sale.
“Haladu Mohammed has distributed two trucks of rice to the poor who could not afford a meal during the hard time when workers’ salaries were, for the most part, not paid. He has taken to sponsoring the education of the indigent students.
“He has donated vehicles and tricycles to the poor to be able to carter for the needs of their family in addition to him being a man of truth and justice.”
Responding, Haladu Mohammed thanked the association for the honour and promised to do more in service to humanity.
Represented by his consultant on media and public affairs, Comrade Adamu Dodo, Mohammed said the gesture would further buoy him to do more.
He urged other rich members of the society to extend their generosity to the underprivileged, particularly at this critical period of high cost of essential commodities.
