From Tom Garba, Yola
Governor Jibrilla Bindow of Adamawa has called on Nigerians to support families of fallen heroes to cushion the pains caused by the loss of their dear ones.
Bindow made the call on Friday at the 2016 Armed Forces Remembrance day in Yola.
He said that the contributions by the fallen heroes would not be forgotten, adding that their families must be supported to benefit from the contributions of their breadwinners.
The governor said that the contribution of the Armed Forces to sustain the country was enormous, noting that they were still in battle against insurgency to maintain peace and keep the nation united.
While donating N5 million on behalf of the state to the Nigerian Legion, the governor called on Nigerians to continue to remember the families and support them to cushion the effect of their lost ones.
Chairman, Nigerian Legion, Adamawa State Chapter, MWO Bashir Babayola (rtd), commended the state government for its support.
Babayola said that the plight of widows and orphans was their main concern.
He regretted that the legion was not able to fulfil its scholarship obligation to families of its members due to lack of funds.
He appealed to the governor to pay the outstanding pledges by the previous administrations.
