Niger State Commissioner for Youth Empowerment and Sports Development, Alh. Mamman Musa has disclosed that fixing Bako Kontagora Memorial Stadium, Minna is the government’s top priority.
Musa made this known while speaking to sportswriters in his office on Friday.
“I know what it is for the team to get home support. Niger Tornadoes took the lead in Bauchi against Wikki Tourist within three minutes into the game in the just concluded league. But the roaring support they got from their fans spurred them up to equalize and eventually won the match”, the commissioner said.
He said all the relevant stakeholders would be involved to ensure that the stadium was fixed so that next season Niger Tornadoes play their home matches in Minna.
“We can’t allow Tornadoes to play their home matches away from home. Soon work at the Bako Kontagora Stadium will resume and we are ready to welcome interventions from corporate bodies to fix the stadium”, he added.
According to him, the performance of Tornadoes finishing the league on the 11th position was worthy of commendation as many people did not give them the chance of maintaining their Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) status as they played their home matches in Lokoja, Kogi State.
He said that the players, the coaching crew, supporting staff and the management of the club should be praised due to the fact that they achieved this feat of maintaining their NPFL status little resources.
“I really want to thank the players for their sacrifice, the coaches and management for this performance, the economic recession also affected the club. But we must thank the players for their act professionalism”, he said.
