It seems that the recent “Uncommon Defection” of Senator Godswill Akpabio from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) went beyond the chambers of the Senate. In fact, like the faithful who would not serve the Lord alone but with his entire household, you can bet your top naira that Distinguished Senator Godswill Akpabio is in the APC with the entire members of household to serve the party and President Muhammadu Buhari.
Reason: The first official visit of the wife of the President, Aisha Muhammadu Buhari to Akwa Ibom State was at the weekend characterized by a high security alert allegedly triggered by Senator Akpabio’s wife, Unoma who, apparently taking her husband’s corner, made for Mrs. Buhari’s aircraft in breach of protocol ahead of the state’s First Lady, Martha Udom Emmanuel, whose husband-governor is currently estranged from his erstwhile PDP political godfather – Senator Akpabio.

Hajiya Buhari was in Akwa Ibom to flag off her pet project, Future Assured Programme, organised in partnership with National Directorate of Employment (NDE). The high drama occurred at the Victor Attah International Airport, Uyo when Mrs. Akpabio allegedly attempted to assume the official duty of Mrs. Udom Emmanuel. As the door of the aircraft opened and Mrs. Buhari made to alight from it, Mrs Akpabio suddenly stepped ahead, shoving aside Mrs. Udom Emmanuel in order to receive the President’s wife first, causing the melee.
This made the President’s wife retreat inside the aircraft and its door shut. Mrs. Buhari waited, sealed from harm in the belly of the aircraft as pandemonium broke out. Peacekeepers appealed to both gladiators-ladies.
When normalcy was restored after 25 minutes, the aircraft door was reopened and Mrs Buhari stepped down to a warm embrace of Mrs Udo Emmanuel who introduced her to other Akwa Ibom women who were at the airport to receive the President’s wife.
