Sunjay Kapur (pictured above), a prominent Indian billionaire and close friend of Prince William, passed away at 53 on June 12, 2025, following a heart attack during a polo match in England.

Sources report that Kapur suffered a bee sting to the mouth, potentially triggering anaphylactic shock that led to cardiac arrest. The exact cause of death remains under investigation, leaving the business and polo communities in shock.

Kapur was the chairman of Sona Comstar, a leading Indian automotive supplier specializing in electric vehicle components. Under his leadership, the company grew into a global powerhouse, earning recognition for innovation and sustainability.

A graduate of The Doon School and a passionate polo player, Kapur was a familiar figure in the UK’s elite polo circles, where he forged a friendship with Prince William. Hours before his death, he posted a heartfelt tribute to victims of an Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad, reflecting his compassionate nature.

Kapur’s personal life was equally notable. He was married to Priya Sachdev, with whom he had two children. Previously, he was married to Bollywood actress Karisma Kapoor from 2003 to 2016, sharing one daughter, Samaira. His high-profile marriages kept him in the public eye, but Kapur remained focused on his business empire and philanthropy, balancing his roles as a family man and industry titan.

Tributes poured in from Sona Comstar, The Doon School, and India’s business community, praising Kapur’s visionary leadership and zest for life. “Sunjay’s legacy will endure through his contributions to industry and sport,” Sona Comstar stated. His sudden death leaves a void in both the corporate and polo worlds, as investigations continue to clarify the tragic circumstances of his passing.
