All Progressives Congress (APC) stakeholders in Benue State have adopted the direct primary mode ahead of their primary elections on Wednesday, 26 May, 2022.
The stakeholders made this resolution known on Sunday, 22 May, 2022 after a meeting held at the Best City Garden, Makurdi, the state capital.
A communique read after the meeting by the Benue State APC Chairman, Mr. Austin Agada, indicated that the adoption of direct mode was to give all aspirants a level playing field.
The meeting had in attendance the North Central Leader of APC and Minister of Special Duties, Sen. George Akume and all the governorship aspirants except, Eng. B. I Gemade, former Minister of Justice, Mike Aondoakaa and Hon. Hemad Hembe.
Meanwhile, a party source told The Dream Daily Newspaper that Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia is the candidate to beat in the Benue APC governorship race.
The source who pleaded anonymity said: “Rev. Fr. Alia is the most popular aspirant for the APC ticket. For other aspirants to believe this, the stakeholders agreed to adopt the direct primary mode to proof why the Reverend is good to go for the APC governorship in Benue State.”
Recall that the Catholic Bishop of Gboko Diocese, Most Rev. William Avenya, suspended Rev. Fr. Alia from celebrating mass in the Gboko Diocese following Alia’s aspiration, though he referred to Alia as his son.
However, Alia has called for calm over the development.
