Bishop of Diocese of Minna (Anglican Communion), Right Reverend Daniel Abubakar Yisa has lamented the get rich quick syndrome prevalent in some new generation churches and their leadership, saying such is inimical to winning souls for Christ.
The Bishop also condemned the use of manipulative mechanisms by the modern Christian church otherwise called African Independent Churches.
He identified such manipulative mechanisms to include brainwashing, mind control, indoctrination, intimidation, bondage and legalism among others.
Speaking on the theme, “Prostituting the Gospel and the anointing of God”, at the third session of the 9th Synod of the diocese in Minna, Bishop Yisa described those who engage in such acts as theological illiterates who take advantage of the spiritual and biblical ignorance of their congregation and adherents.
His words: “It is crystally evident also that majority of the so called men of God who indulge in such are driven by unquenchable thirst for acquisition and materialism and get rich quick syndrome.
He said “even when the goal is to win souls to Christ, the underlying agenda for the leaders of these modern churches is the desire for more power , control and greed and desire to acquire more money.
“Note that these mind control inspirational speaker syndrome and bondage techniques are not needed to win souls to Christ if the Holy Spirit is allowed to operate and the word of God is preached in context. In fact, they are very counter productive to soul winning” Bishop Yisa said, citing several biblical passages.
Bishop Yisa disclosed that notwithstanding the economic downturn in the country, the diocese recorded progress in the areas of staff development and church planting.
