A young man, Kabiru Sajo, has dragged some members of a Yola bye-pass mosque security committee before an Area Court for alleged assault.
Sajo, on Sunday afternoon, had a scuffle with some youths assigned to handle screening at the mosque for alleged refusal to be screened with metal detector introduced by the mosque committee in view of the recent bombing incidents in Yola.
The case, filed at the Damare Area Court, attracted crowds of Muslim faithful who went in solidarity with the accused, a development which prompted Area Court Judge, Hussaini Tahir, to call the parties involved to his chamber to settle the matter amicable.
Journalists who also went to the court for coverage were shocked when their gadgets were seized by officials of the court who claimed that they did not seek clearance from the court registrar to cover the event.
Many of the Muslim faithful who stormed the court in solidarity claimed that the plaintiff, Sajo, a son to a senior judicial staff, Magistrate Hindatu Bala, was just trying to use his mother’s position to deal with those who had a scuffle with him.
They based their argument on the claim that when officials of the mosque went to see the mother of Sajo over the incident to explain to her, she was annoyed and refused to see them.
The close-door meeting held at the magistrate chamber had in attendance the Magistrate Hussaini Tahir, the District Head of Yola, Alhaji Sa’adu Bawuro, the complainant, Kabiru Sajo and his Mother, Hindatu Bashir as well as the accused persons and officials of the affected bye-pass mosque.
After the meeting, which led to amicable resolution of the matter, the District Head addressed the crowd and sued for peace, unity and understanding in the ongoing effort to contain the security challenges in the state.
Meanwhile, journalists whose equipment were seized by the court officials had been given back their gadgets.
