Chairman, Madagali Local Government, Adamawa State, Muhammed Yusuf has disclosed that following the heat on Boko Haram terrorists in Borno and Yobe states, the insurgents are fleeing into Adamawa state to hide.
Yusuf made this disclosure on Thursday and noting that he got news from a source that the terrorists are fleeing into Madagali which is a border town to Gwoza in Borno state the stronghold of the insurgency.
He said he was using this platform to call on the security apparatus to tighten up security in Madagali in order to prevent the insurgents from entering the town and the state.
Yusuf further explained that already insurgents have been terrorizing and molesting residents of the town people for five years now, stressing that allowing more of the terrorists to flee into Madagali will worsen the activities of the insurgents in his area.
His words: “We already have some insurgents in Sambisa forest few meters to Madagali that we are managing and trying to wipe out and to allow more to join the ones we have will worsening the situation.”
Yusuf urged the security operatives manning the areas to do a thorough check on motorists and passengers coming out of Borno and Yobe states into other states.
Yusuf also commended the military for launching fierce attacks on the insurgency as he believed that if the military continues in such manner the fight against the insurgency will be a thing of the past.
However he said the security situation presently in Madagali “is a bit calm for two to three days now but a proactive measure should be taken to stop the insurgents from worsening the security situation in the area.”
Also commenting on the issue, Member Representing Madagali/Michika Constituency at the National Assembly, Hon. Adamu Kamale, said he was not just only concerned about the fleeing Boko Haram insurgents but the series of attacks on Madagali on daily basis.
He lamented that more than 100 women kidnapped by the Boko Haram insurgency in recent times are still in their custody in Sambisa forest and that they had reported the matter to the authorities countless time but nothing has been done to rescue these women.
Kamale further explained that it has not been well with Madagali for some years now adding the area usually experienced series of attacks.
Every effort made to get the military authority to response on the issue proof abortive.
