Borno State Deputy Governor, Usman Mamman Durkwa, has advised parents of the abducted Chibok girls to continue praying for the safe return of the children.
Durkwa spoke when he accompanied a committee on distribution of relief materials to Chibok town set up by wife of the President, Hajiya Aisha Buhari for the completion of the presentation of cash donated by the President’s wife to some parents of the Chibok girls.
Durkwa assured the people of Chibok that the state government has allocated two trucks of fertiliser to Chibok Local Government for this farming season.
He further promised that the constructions of roads from Chibok to Damboa would commence immediately after the raining season.
Chairperson, Aisha Buhari Relief Materials Distribution Committee Hajiya Nana Shettima, said the committee members were in Chibok to present a token to the parents of the Chibok girls on behalf of the President’s wife.
Represented by the President National Council For Women Societ,y Hajiya Yagana Alkali, Hajiya Shettima said the present administration was committed to rescuing the abducted girls and urged them to prayer and support the government at all times.
Secretary of the Chibok Council, Mallam Awami Nkeki, commended the wife of the president, state and federal government over their concerns for the people of Chibok and appealed to the government to start the reconstruction on the Chibok-Damboa road and rehabilitate the General Hospital.
The team inspected the General Hospital Chibok which is in serious state of disrepair.
Chief Nursing Officer in charge of the hospital, Mr Puza Hikama, appealed to government to undertake a complete repair of the hospital, recruit staff, provide ambulance and a doctor being the only hospital serving the people of the local government.
Durkwa also visited the internally-displaced persons (IDPs) camp in Chibok town and inspected construction cum renovation works in Government Girls Secondary school where about 42 buildings including dormitories, the principal’s house, administration block and road network are being worked upon.
Government Girls Secondary School, Chibok was the famous school where over 200 school girls were abducted by the Boko Haram sect in 2014, with only a few regaining their freedom since then.
