
President Muhammadu Buhari has appointed a professor of political history and international studies, Mahmood Yakubu, as new the chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The appointment, made on Wednesday by the President at the Council of State meeting in Abuja, is subject to ratification by the Senate.
Yakubu, a former executive secretary of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund, will take over from the acting chairman of the commission, Hajiya Amina Zakari, who will revert to her initial post at the electoral umpire as the INEC commissioner representing the North-West.
