The youth wing of the Christian Association of Nigerian (CAN) have faulted a recent claim made by Secretary to Government of the Federation (SGF), David Lawal Babachir, that Christians were fuelling wild rumours about President Muhammadu Buhari’s health.
A statement made available to The Dream Daily Newspapers in Yola, Adamawa State by President, Youth wing, CAN, Engr. Daniel David Kadzai, stated: “The attention of the Youth wing of CAN has been drawn to the recent statement in the media attributed to the SGF, Mr. David Lawal Babachir amidst other concerns most especially heinous killings and growing insecurity in Nigeria under their watch.
“We wish to state categorically that the SGF, Mr. Babachir has no ecclesiastical authority to speak for his church (ECWA) or the Christian community. Let him not be deceived by his position in government as equal to a spiritual leader speaking for the Christians.
“Though the church or Christian leadership may out of grace not excommunicate the SGF, the entire Christian youths frown at and dissociate their selves from the misleading claims by the SGF that, Christians are fuelling rumors about President Buharis’ health.
The SGF does not need to play to the gallery in pleasing his mentors and political sponsors by denying his kit and kin’s of same faith.
“We are aware of such that abound in this administration. Exodus 9:16″ But,indeed, for this reason I have allowed you to remain,in order to show you My power and in order to proclaim My name through all the earth”. Christians must not be taken for granted.”
Kadza continued: “For the benefit of doubt, it might interest Mr. Babachir and his likes to know that ALL Christian leaders, Churches, Ministries and Para-church organizations have been praying for the health of Mr. President(Buhari) both in Sunday worship services, midweek fellowships and night vigil worships.
“We wonder what the SGF, Mr. Babachir seeks to achieve by claiming that Christians are responsible for fuelling the rumours concerning Mr. Presidents’ health. Babachir as a Christian knows the Bible instruction to Christians, “…to pray for ALL those in position of authority” Let us remind the SGF that ours is not a religion that imposes leadership or compulsive followership and that “He that troubleth his house shall inherit winds”(Prov.11:29)
“On the fight against Corruption by this administration, we observed with dismay that the corruption war still appear to be one-sided; either on those who have served in the last PDP administration or those who have fallen out with the APC-led government. The Christian youths and Nigerians are watching those indicted and prosecuted on corruption charges and wondered if those leaders in APC or those who decamped to APC are sacred cows and untouchables.
“With the recent sentencing of former Adamawa state governor, Ngillari to 5 years imprisonment, Nigerians are beginning to wonder whose scripts are being perfected.”
The statement added: “Babachir can be seen as a pure energy of the church, a goat within the sheep fold of our Lord Jesus Christ who can do anything to dent the image of the church. We equally want to still say that the church he claims he goes should ex-communicate him and treat him as an alien.
“We wish to put it on record that the diversionary and provocative antics of Junaid Mohammed and President Buharis’ kinsmen asking the whereabouts of the President cannot distract us from praying for the President and peace in Nigeria.
“In conclusion, we wish to remind this administration, those in position of authority and ALL politicians that their actions are being assessed and by men and God. While voting, Nigerians have fast learned how to protect their votes from impostors and money-bag manipulators.
“When the wicked rise, men hide themselves; But when they perish, the righteous increase “Prov 28:28,
“A man who hardens his neck after much reproof Will suddenly be broken beyond remedy.”
