The Colleges of Education Academic Staff Union, (COEASU), Kaduna State College of Education Gidan Waya Chapter, has appealed to Governor Nasir el-Rufai to approve the re-opening of Gidan Waya main campus for resumption of academic activities.
The appeal was made by the Chairman of the Union, Comrade Noah Danladi during a press briefing on Thursday at the Kafanchan campus of the institution.
Comrade Danladi, who commended the governor for being alive to his responsibility, especially as it affects security, said the re-opening of the college was necessary, in view of the prevailing relative peace in Gidan waya and its environs.
The COEASU chairman said the closure of the institution since December last year has led to loss of a whole semester, which has distorted the academic calendar that will in turn affect graduating students.
Danlami said resumption if approved would not only send a signal that normally had returned but also allow contractors handling different projects in the school to return to site.
The union chairman urged government to deploy security operations to the college to further restore confidence.
Comrade Danlami, however called on the Kaduna State Government to temporarily exempt the college from Treasury Single Account and solicited for increase Funding to fast rack development in the institution.
COEASU also re-iterated its appeal to the state government to implement the 65-year retirement age for academic staff, as obtained in similar institutions as well as consolidate polytechnics and colleges of Education Academic salary structure (CON-PCASS), to stem the menace of brain drain.
Comrade Danladi pledged the unflinching support of members of the union, to the El-Rufai-led administration, to guarantee the attainment of set goals and objectives.
