Governor of Niger State, Alhaji Abubakar Sani Bello, has assured of his government’s continued commitment to it open-door policy, transparency, accountability and acceptance of meaningful suggestions at all times.
The governor made this known when he received a delegation from Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation which was on a courtesy visit to his office in Minna the state capital.
Represented by his Deputy, Alhaji Ahmwd Mohammed Ketso, the governor said his decision to run an open-door administration was in keeping with his electoral campaign promise of running an all-inclusive administration.
“This is a government of the people, that is why we are committed to engaging widely before decisions are taken. We are open to meaningful suggestions, especially in the health sector for the total wellbeing of our people,” Sani Bello assured.
To this end, the governor said his administration will construct a fully functional Primary Health Care Clinic in each of the 274 wards in the state and also ensure that each of the 25 local government areas has a General Hospital.
He stated that his administration places priority attention on the health sector, hence the huge allocation to it in the 2016 budget.
He however identified lack of enough funds and accessible roads to rural areas as the obstacle of reaching out properly to the people in the sector especially because the state is rural based.
The governor expressed his readiness to partner with the Foundation and any other development partners. This he said became necessary in the face of the economic meltdown, stressing that the state will need the support of all well-meaning organisations to actualise our dream for a better state.
African Director of the foundation, Dr. Ayo Ajayi, said his team was in the state to acquire deep knowledge of the dynamics, transparency and accountability of the administration and identify areas of collaboration with the government.
