
Nigeria’s Favour Ofili, finished second behind Jamaican sprint star and Olympic champion, Elaine Thompson-Herah, in the 200m race to add a silver to Team Nigeria’s haul in Birmingham on Saturday night.
The 19-year-old Ofili took off strongly and finished the race at 22.51s behind Thompson-Herah’s Games record’s 22.02s
Namibia’s Olympic silver medallist, Christine Mboma, took bronze with 22.80s.
Ofili’s silver medal win is the second of such medal Nigeria had won in the event after Mary Onyali who ran 22.35s to place second behind Australia’s Cathy Freeman in 1994.
In the games Nigeria now has a medal haul records of one gold after Blessing Okagbare’s 22.25s blistering run eight years ago in Glasgow, Scotland and two silver medals.
