Team Nigeria basked in another golden ray on Sunday, 7 August, 2023 as Tobi Amusan added the Commonwealth Games record to her list of accolades by winning the 100m hurdles gold medal in a new Games Record time of 12.30s at the Alexander Stadium, Birmingham, United Kingdom.

The silver medal went to Devynne Charlton of the Bahamas, who finishes in 12.58, just ahead of England’s Cindy Sember who clocks 12.59.

Amusan is the world record holder in the event, having set a new world record of 12.12s just last month in the US.

With this victory, Amusan has successfully defended her Commonwealth Games title

The 25-year-old Amusan is the first World Champion to win Gold in her event at the Commonwealth Games and the first Nigerian athlete to be crowned champion at all levels of athletics in the same year.

With this result, Nigeria has now won 10 gold medals and 31 medals in total.

Team Nigeria are now just one behind the gold medal record set by the 1994 team (11 gold medals) at the Commonwealth Games and six behind the total medals record (37 medals).

Nigeria’s medal hopes are bright with seven competitions still to hold on the final day.

World Athletics Championship silver medallist in Long Jump, Ese Brume, will compete later today, among others.
