Men’s Relay Quartet Bags Bronze

Team Nigeria are saving the best for the last at the on-going Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, United Kingdom as they harvest more medals on the final day of the competition

Tobi Amusan set the ball rolling on the day with a golden and record-setting win in the 100m hurdles on Sunday, 2 August, 2022.

A few hours later, the quartet of Udodi Onwuzurike, Favour Ashe, Alaba Akintola and Raymond Ekevwo took to the tracks to win Bronze in the men’s 4x100m relay event, finishing in a time of 38.81s.

Not done for the day, red-hot Tobi Amusan, Favour Ofili, Rose Chukwuma and Grace Nwokocha came on to beat a very strong field in the 4x100m Women’s race, setting a new African Record of 42.10s to win Nigeria’s 11th gold medal in Birmingham.

Amusan started the race for Nigeria and expertly handed over the baton to Ofili who won the silver medal in the 200m event on Saturday.

Ofili kept the strong start going and handed over to Rose Chukwuma who also built on the Nigerian momentum to hand over the baton to the last-leg runner, Nwokocha.

Nwokocha shot off like lightening and hard as the rest tried they could not catch up with her as she delivered the gold for Nigeria.

With 11 gold medals already in the bag now, Nigeria has equalled its best-ever performance at the Commonwealth Games.

However, the country is still on course to make this outing the best ever with at least two more gold medal possibilities.
