A five-man panel of investigation activities under the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) has submitted a report to the Governor of Adamawa State, Jibrilla Bindow, which revealed that N4.9 billion had been stolen by various companies and contractors through partial or non-execution of projects awarded to them by previous administrations.
Alhaji Alfa Belel, who is the chairman of the investigative panel, while submitting the reports explained that panel investigated 1,150 contracts awarded from 2010 to date.
“We discovered that some contractors executed some projects in the state partially while some have not even executed theirs at all. Some are now owing the state N730 Million. Projects paid but not visibly located is put at N892 million,” Balel reported.
The report also show that there are un-receipted money amounting to N654 million and 146 are unremitted.
According to him the projects handled during the period under investigation included construction of boreholes, classrooms, health centres, toilets as well as supply of water. He added that N11 Billion was received from the federal government for activities of MDGs in the state.
He alleged that the almost all contractors awarded contracts had collaborated with consultants to defraud the state government as all the projects have been fully paid.
Responding Governor Bindow thanked the committee for a job well done and assured that his administration would not tolerate corruption.
The governor then referred the report to the Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice, Barrister Bala Sanga for further action.
