The new Emir of Borgu, Alhaji Muhammad Sani Haliru Dantoro ‘Kitoro IV’ (Mai Borgu) on Saturday during his coronation wept as he remembered his late father who died exactly one year ago.

He made an emotional speech at his coronation as the 17th Emir of Borgu Kingdom, Kitoro IV’ (Mai Borgu) saying that his late father’s call for true change must be embraced by all.

According to him “in far-away Germany, on Thursday, October 29, 2015 he said to me ‘Marafa, go home and prepare for my return. I want to come home quietly. A day later, precisely on Friday, October, 30th, 2015 it pleased Almighty Allah to recall Mai Borgu the Great from this life.

“To Allah the giver and taker of life, we must return all praises for blessing Borgu and Nigeria with the priceless treasure that the late Mai Borgu represents.”

“My father’s reign on the throne of our forefathers, though comparatively brief, will forever remain the definition of our true leadership, not just in Borgu history, but in the annals of this country.

“Like generous raindrops from the heavens the blessings of Mai Borgu’s reign fell not just on Borgu but also fertilised the very destiny of this great nation.

“My late father was a hero who was prepared to sacrifice even his exalted seat for the cause of giving our beloved country. I call on the leaders of change in Nigeria to honour the late Emir by burying their differences and working as a team in the interest of the common man.”

President Muhammadu Buhari represented at the coronation by was by the Minister of Federal Capital Territory.

The event had over 100 traditional rulers from across the country led by the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, Emir of Kano, Mohammed Sanusi II, and the Etsu Nupe Alhaji Yahaya Abubakar.

The new Emir took the oath of office administered by the Chief Judge of Niger state.
At the event, the Niger State governor, Abubakar Sani Bello, charged the traditional institution to remain the watchdogs of their domain for further maintenance of peace and to curtail any act capable of breaking law and order.
He made the appeal while presenting staff of office to the 17th Emir of Borgu, Barrister Muhammed Sani Haliru Dantoro, Kitoro IV in New Bussa, Borgu Local Government area of the state.
The governor stressed the need for caution and vigilance on the part of the royal fathers so as to help fish out questionable characters in the society.
His words: “I call on all traditional rulers to be more interested in what happens in their communities. You remain security watchdogs in your domain and by extension the state. You must avoid any criminal connivance, as this is capable of ruining any leader.”
He commended the support he has been receiving from state council of traditional rulers and called on the new Emir to extend same to his government.
The governor also urged him to bring his wealth of experience to bear in positioning his Emirate for greatness.
The newly installed Emir of Borgu, Barrister Muhammed Sani Haliru Dantoro, Kitoro IV promised to be fair to all his subjects and called on them to come up with meaningful ideas on how to move the Emirate forward.
The royal father, whose late father was a Senator during the botched 3rd Republic called on political leaders in the country to bury their differences for the development, progress and unity of the country.
The royal father, who was apparently referring to the crisis within the ruling party said, “Let all leaders of change bury their differences, work for the unity and for the progress of the country in the memory of my late father”.
President Muhammadu Buhari, a turbaned chief of the emirate was represented by the Minister of Federal Capital Territory, Alhaji Mohammed Musa Bello and Hon. Abu Bawa Bwari, Minister of State, Ministry of Solid Minerals.
Other attendees include, the governor of Sokoto State, Hon. Aminu Tambuwal, Inspector General of Police, Mr. Idris Ibrahim, former military governor of the state, Colonel Lawan Gwadabe and Ambassador designate, Hon. Ahmed Ibeto
