Corp Members Lament Illegal Collection Of Rent In Corper’ Lodge By Delta Govt

Corp members in Asaba, capital of Delta state have raised the alarm over illegal collection of house rent and other fees in the corps member’s lodge.
Speaking to The Dream Daily, one of the corps member lamented that the corper’s lodge of the state ministry for women affair has been put on rent.
Also another source, a member of staff of the ministry who confided in The Dream Daily, said that one Mr. Akpos a worker in the ministry rented the five rooms apartment with the sum of N50,000 each to some corps members who were not posted to the ministry, leaving the corps members posted to the ministry homeless.
The source noted that the said Mr. Akpos was also living in the same corper’s lodge free and using the opportunity to extort money from the corps members in the name of electricity bill, threatening the women who could not pay the money to pay in kind, citing that order from above.
The source further said that the ministry has constituted a committee to look into the illegal occupants and other fees collected in the corper’s lodge but the committee set up by the commissioner of that ministry, Mrs Williams Omoshola, has been manipulated without meaningful result.
One of the corps members living in the lodge, said, ”We paid Mr Akpos before packing into the lodge but the way he is collecting money from us now is not good. Some time he will tell us to buy something for him or he will kick us out from the lodge, because he knows we are desperate for accommodation,” she lamented
As it were, most of the corps members posted to the ministry are still roaming the streets of Asaba searching for where to sleep as they could not afford house rent in the state capital.
It was gathered that the commissioner had turned deaf ears to the plight of the corps members serving in that ministry
Efforts by The Dream Daily to contact the commissioner, Mrs. Omoshola and Mr. Akpos on via telephone failed because both of them did not pick their calls.
