The leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has declared a two-day nationwide mass protest slated for February 27 and 28 over the biting hardship in the country.

President, NLC, Joe Ajaero, declared the protest at Labour House, Abuja, during a media briefing on Friday, 16 February, 2024.

Recall that Labour had given the Federal Government an ultimatum to address the cost of living hardship or face a nationwide protest.

At a meeting between the labour leaders and officials of the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment, headed by the Minister of State for Labour, Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, on Monday, the labour leaders had said only the government could stop the planned strike by addressing the 15-point agreement reached on October 2, 2023.

It appears that the government has not met labour’s expectations, hence the call for the protest by the NLC leadership.

While President Bola Ahmed Tinubu met with the governor’s of the 36 states in the week and announced some measures to address the crisis at hand, public affairs analysts have faulted the government’s approach, insisting that the measures were inadequate to tackle the hardship Nigerians currently face.
